I have a simple question - Can Mac OSX open/read/access a hard drive encrypted with Microsoft's BitLocker drive encryption? This is a feature new to Windows as of Windows Vista, and has been improved in Windows 7/8/10. Windows 7 adds the ability to encrypt removable drives. Does anyone know whether Bitlocker is compatible with Mac OSX?
The short answer, you're toast. Mac OS X or anything operating system other than Windows cannot read a BitLocker encrypted drive or volume. But there is a Bitlocker To Go for Mac tool called M3 Bitlocker Loader for Mac which allows you to read Bitlocker encrypted external hard drive and flash drive on macOS 10.13 (High Sierra), 10.12 (Sierra) and Mac OSX 10.11/10.10/10.9/10.8/10.7.
Tutorial to read/open/access Bitlocker encrypted drive on Mac computer
Step 1: Download, install and launch M3 Bitlocker Loader for Mac on your Mac computer.
Step 2: Insert a Bitlocker encrypted drive
Step 3: Select Bitlocker encrypted drive which you want to read and click "Open" icon to continue.
Step 4: Enter the password (or 48-digit recovery key) and click "Unlock" to unlock Bitlocker encrypted drive.
Step 5: Select the files on Bitlocker encrypted drive you expect and then copy them out.
